It was in the 1980, from the traditional children’s summer camp experience that adult weight loss camps evolved. Weight loss camps for kids and adults slowly gained popularity. The obesity grew across all ages especially from 70’s to 80’s.

Such camps mainly stressed in low calorie diet. This was accompanied by fitness and exercise program. Initially, the camps failed to address the fundamental behavior and emotional issues. The fat farm and the weight loss boot farm did not include body image and body acceptance struggle.

There are little evidences of such weight loss to be permanent. Children and adults enrolled in these programs return home with a better-fit body, but did not seem to last long. The results were short-lived as the programs did not diagnosis any eating habits nor found solution to it.

The camps were like a session or short-term sessions to enjoy as well as to be fit. The instructors did not know how to deal with the emotions and stresses that triggered overeating. Today, many question the existence of such camps, but they still exist.

The weight loss program of adults must follow a regime for the betterment in creating healthy lifestyle behaviors. This key element is the success of such a camp. Other factors are to be maintained for a successful camp.

The staff should include qualified counselors. Health professionals such as nutritionists, registered dietitians, psychologists and exercise physiologists are to be involved.  The program should be tailored to meet individual needs. Get informations on the number of participants per session.

The counseling should be effective enough to make changes in eating and lifestyle choices. The program should mainly include stress management. It should deal with the behavioral component dealing with emotional aspects of eating.

There should be made a thorough inquiry on the aftercare support the camp provides. The program should be everlasting not just inclined for a few months. Group works are more efficient and successful than working alone. The results become positive as the individual gets friends to accompany him with the whole session.

 The programs might be strict ones that are applied by the dieters. The food mainly contains the right calorie intake for weight loss. All such factors along with a friendly atmosphere make the weight loss program more successful.

Certain camps do not stress on diet philosophy. They go more for the attainment of a successful weight loss that is proportion to their height and weight. According to such plans, too much weight reduction might cause health problems.
